| I was at the blitz concert in Brooklyn they did before the album was released and at the show he mentioned playing the song at his dad's funeral. The part "You're the reason I sing, You're the reason why the opera's in me", he explained that his dad used to sing for a music society and when people die, he believes they leave things for you. He said his dad left him his voice because he hasn't had a voice that strong in many years. | |

| I agree! This song is beautiful. U2's perfomance of it recently at the Grammy's was very emotional. At the beginning he made a powerful dedication to his dad, and said that "(his father had) a beautiful tenor voice. I'd like to think that when he passed away, he gave that to me" Hence the line, "You're the reason why the opera is in me" He also said "I wish i got to know him better". Which is shown in the line "If we weren't so alike, you'd like me a whole lot more". I think that the raw emotion in this song emphasises Bono's pain at his father's death, but at the same time it is a very consoling song, with such passion. One of the lines which gives me goosebumps is "Let me take some of the punches for you tonight". It seems so much more powerful when you realise Bono is talking about his father and emphasises the love and bond shared between the two, dispite the fact their relationship was rocky "We fight all of the time". Bono has commented on their relationship, claiming it was a typical fighting Irish father-son relationship, yet this song shows the love felt. Its just simply beautiful. Something easy to relate to on many levels. At the end of the performance at the Grammys, Bono sang a short version of 'No regrets', "There's no regrets, Don't want you back, We'd only cry again, Say goodbye". At this point the audience went almost dead, it was beautiful. | |

| This song was written for Bono's father. U2 performed it at his funeral in 2001. | |
