When Bono started Edge play this riff 1:

Riff 1: (Here the chord are G D)

In the days when we were swinging from the trees

I was a monkey stealing honey from a swarm of bees

I could taste, I could taste you even then

And I would chase you down the wind

Riff 2: (Em C G D)

You could go there if you please, wild honey

And if you go there, go with me, wild honey

Riff 1:

Did I know you? did I know you even then?

Before the clocks kept time, before the world was made

From the cruel sun,

you were shelter You were my shelter and my shade

Riff 2:

If you go there, go with me, wild honey,

You can do just what you please, wild honey

Yeah, just blowing in the breeze, wild honey,

wild wild wild

Riff 1

Iım still standing, Iım still standing where you left me

Are you still growing wild, with everything tame around you?

I send you flowers, cut flowers for your hall

I know your gardenıs full, but is there sweetness at all?

Am C Am C
oh oh oh

Riff 2:

If you go there, go with me, wild honey,

Wont you take me, take me please, wild honey

Yeah, swingin through the, wild honey,

wild wild wild

This is a good old-fashioned summertime jam. Love it. "Are you still growing wild with everything tame around you?" feels like they're kinda' growing up and he's wondering if she's still the same free-spirit she used to be. If she held onto that. And if she does, if she goes there, he wants a taste of it, too.

good thoughts above on this one. i would probably venture to say this is not about sex, but about God. i think it is pondering a relationship with God through the history of the world, going back through evolution (maybe, "I was a monkey"), and before creation ("before the world was made"). "you were my shelter and my shade" is very much biblical language, as is the mention of the oppression of the sun ("cruel sun"). John the baptist was known to eat "wild field honey" as is referred to in Mark 1:6 (according to The Message, the bible translation Bono uses). although, the imagery of "garden" is used in the Song of Songs as a sexual metaphor, i think "your garden" is most likely meaning Eden. just some ideas.

It's "Could flowers thaw your heart" not "Cut flowers for your hall", I think.

It's my least favorite U2 song, next to "Sweetest Thing". I really dislike it but still love U2. I forgive them of this sin.

I must admit I like this song, next to In a little while. If you ask me it is a great over looked song on the album and to me relates to the traditional relationship between a man and a woman.

junners you hit the nail on the head!! this song is so full of passion that it over whelms you. it's a special song to me. it has a sort of tranquil effect, and yet it is so powerful! i love this song it's my favorite - and i guess i don't listen to it right but i don't think... mabey it is...about sex? help me! and freezegelman so right in a little while is good to. i hate how people over look the real meaning to the songs and just go for rap and hevey metal and shit...and am i aloud to swear? i can't beleive that people don't like this song the really should listen to 'all that you can't leave behind'. and learn to appreciate the slower songs ok...well wateva.

I love this song. I don't know why U2 (or Adam, at least) consider this a throw away song. Is that because they don't think much of the song or they think it's a silly song? They must have thought it was a pretty decent song to put it on the album instead of Levitate, I Love You Like Mad or Flower Child. Come to think of it, maybe they should have thrown away Peace On Earth for one of these songs. Speaking of Flower Child, I think it has the same vibe as Wild Honey. Maybe U2 considers it a throw away song.

"Wild Honey" is most definately NOT a throw-away song! In fact, it's almost enraging that any real U2 fan could call it that. The one thing about this song that makes it so captivating is the recurring theme: Innocence. Youthful curiosity and exuberance. This song is clearly a reflection on one's youth, before the person grew up and learned the hardships of adult life. Regardless of whether it's about God and evolution or just a simple man reflecting back to his own innocence, the meaning is still the same: that there was a time when we were all innocent and free of the burdens of life. That is the one thing that will always remain constant. "Just blowing in the breeze" is my favorite line from Wild Honey. It sums up the whole song: Before everything gets complicated, we were all free and innocent creatures. If you haven't already, I strongly suggest you see the clever usage of this song in the film 'Vanilla Sky'. Its use in that movie could not have been more fitting.

"deathbear", this song is NOT a sin. far from it. and "golgotha" the lyrics printed are correct. your "could flowers thaw your heart" are imaginative but sadly false. and if this is a "throwaway" song it's the best i've heard.

Personally, I really like this song. I know it's one of their 'throw-away' songs on that album(as bassist Adam Clayton put it), but still, it's pretty. It's an innocent song, and I love Edge's harmony, and the guitar!
