| I'd like to add that the song reminds me of Allen Ginsberg's poem "Lay down your mountain" which can be viewed here http://www.allenginsberg.org/library/Text/9914.pdf | |

| Garbage! Absolute pile of Shit!!! This song is just a disgrace to the U2 name. Any true U2 fan wouldn't piss on this this turd covered rectum wart if it was on fire. Shame on you Bono. Shame on you Edge. Shame on you Adam. Shame on you Larry. I'm glad to see no other song in this album is as painfully dreadful as this sorry excuse for a Track 4. Get your act together boys!! Get back to the good old days of The Joshua Tree, I beg of you. | |

| Also I think, "or else" that appears at the end of the title "love and peace or else" is also a threat or a plea to God to wake up, or it could be a call to humanity as well. | |

| Bono is God would you be happy if they redid 1987 for you? I wouldn't mind going thru hi school again too....but we all must move on; thank God Bono and the boys have. Great energy here | |

| Leave your jealous lover behind, or in other words your God and prejudices, and re-evaluate your dreams, hopes, fears, and the things you treasure most, to come together find common ground and break the monsters back (wars, poverty, injustices), for a better world. In other words Abrahams sons will not be layed down and sacrifced to the jealous lover, or God, but a new life and brand new heart will emerge despite the jealous lover, or God. Once the heart is broken, or everything you thought was true is learned to be false, then you can answer the question where is the love and peace? Which ironically brings you right back to God. Love and Peace. | |

| That song reminds me a lot of Mofo, though it's much better. Probably my favourite from the album. I love the lyrics: "As you enter this life I pray you depart With a wrinkled face And a brand new heart" Prolly meaning, that he prays the person will die of old age and having lived a full life and not due to some war.Pretty obvious I guess... Also love the way he sings "Lay your love on the track We’re gonna break the monster’s back" It's definately about Middle East peace, at least on some level. The: "Lay down your guns All your daughters of Zion All your Abraham sons" point seems pretty clear at that. | |

| I think this song indicates the struggles and wars in the world. Specially in the middle east. Bono is searching for peace and prays to the people to put down their weapons. He prays that people should live their entire life and live it peacefully. | |

| It's got to be about the situation in the middle East, the Israel/Palestine thing. "Lay down your guns All your daughters of Zion All your Abraham sons" Stop the fighting in Israel. I'm Jewish, and often in services Israel is referred to as Zion. Israel is even called Zion in the Israeli national anthem. | |

| After reading the lyrics and listening to this song i am convinced that it is definitely about God and the state of the world. The first verse i believe is about repenting and laying your sins down to God. He says lay down your love, your sinful emotions(jealosy), and treasure to Him, and it will break the Devils back. He continues on about praying for people and hoping that by the time they reach the end of their life they have lived long and happy and leave this temporary world with a new heart. Then i believe when Bono says I DONT KNOW IF I CAN MAKE IT, IM NOT EASY ON MY KNEES, he is saying that its a tough thing to do for live for Christ but its something hes willing to do. HERES MY HEART YOU CAN BREAK IT. | |

| Canada, how could you doub the sincerity of U2? Just because Billy Graham was in the One commercial? LOL.. I think the line about Abraham sons is more than the story of Abraham and the sacrifice, I took that part of the song to mean that it's pretty silly for the three Abrahamic faiths to be squabbling 2000 years later and perople still dying over it.. | |

| No wonder no one talked to them. They’re a bit pushy, aren’t they? I thought so. Never liked us either. Well! How might peace handle that? Don’t know. Theoretically? Yes. Hmmm … peace would ignore it. Just like that? Just like that … | |
