| OK, I get where U2 and Green day are coming from, but the fundimentals of these lyrics, and video are flawed beyond belief. For one, everyone understands that what happened in New Orleans was absolutly terrible. And pulling the troops out of the Middle East, is, is, absolutely OBSURD. The time it would for these jets and helicopters, the troops, and everything to get, it would have taken even longer than it took aid to arrive in the first place. Using jets and helicopters to drop the supplies, would be completely inificient, from a cost and practical use standard. Lastly, as bad as the situation in the Middle East has gotten bad, pulling out would have completely distablized the entire region, not only creating a terrible situation for more people than just the southern US. Most of the UN would probably never side with the US again, for just makeiing a terrible situation in the Middle East when they didnt want us in there in the first place, and US foriegn policy would be screwed for a long time. This is only a small amount of flaws I can find in this BS of a song. I have no problem with bands getting involved in politics, but dont tell a government what they should have done, especially when its some BS, hindsight idea. PS. This is for starving children | |

| First of all, a lot of the lyrics are wrong but whatev. Second, this video is really really great and Billy's and Bono's voices go really well together. Third, I can't beleive you guys are fighting about whether U2 or Green Day are better. They are both good and people are allowed to have their own opinions so just shut up already! uh....no offense? :-) | |

And never in my entire life did I meet or hear of anyone who didnt like U2, now I am just appalled, shame on you, shame on YOU *Shames you people* LOL And its pretty sad people saying Green Day is better then U2 when they cant spell Billie Joe properly, lol. And yeh, its about how there are troops in Iraq while people in New Orleans suffer without enough supplies. | |

| I cannot believe u ppl are argueing about which band is better!! The song is suppose to be about the huricane Katrina incident, and just because the video shows the iraqi troops flying back to the US to save the Katrina victims, doesn't mean the song means the same thing. In my opnion, it is about the huricane Katrina victims, but what the boy in the lyrics is askin is when the place he's living in is going to clear "how long now? Until the clouds unroll and you come down on the light wind will the shadows still remain since your descent" In other words, it doesn't mean gets the troops back now, it's just sayin that he wishes we could finnish off this war which is causing so much distruction, and help those souls that are suffering because of the huricane. It's suppose to eb for charity, and instead of u ppl sayin somthin IMPORTANT ur agueing over which band is better. This should be the last joint band song, since obviously it's mainly starting a riot over the rating of each band, instead of helping the people who are suffering. Besides the point, this is mainly asking for a better life for every1, and stop all the suffering in our world. So ppl, please stop fighting for one second, cus ur totally putting down the meaning of the song, in it's own forum!! | |

| It was meant to be about the original writer whose friend went into war in Belfast and was killed. It is of a man who sings about facing bad weather and personal fears as if you listen Bono sings 'I cried to my daddy on the telephone...how long now?', and the Saints are those who help them...the emergency personel. | |

| Well...I have one question...how are people saying U2 sucks? First of all, U2 is a much better band than Green Day. Every album U2 released is a classic. Green Day are good, but please don't compare them to U2. I mean, U2 have been doing this for about 25 years...and are still making great music. | |

| Wow MV85, what an observation. U2 and Green Day performed it live at a benefit for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Like said before its a re-make of The Skids and the lyrics have been altered a bit. And who cares which bands are better than others, theres a thing called genre. They are both great bands and that is that. | |

| I wasn't sure how I felt about U2 performing with Green Day because there's a gap in their skill levels, IMHO. But it's a great song. I think it's fairly obvious what it's about too, especially if you watch the music video. | |

| I really like this song. I think we all know that the context of this song is based on hurricane Katrina, and with that in mind, the song ain't that hard to figure out. Never been a big Green Day fan. They're good, but U2 is soo much better. Sorry guys Bono is way cooler that Billie. And the best part is he knows it "It's never been done. oddly enough, which is interesting, Two bands like this, two bands having a baby...and we're not the chick,"~Bono on working with Green Day for "The Saints are Coming" Just goes to show U2 is much more superior than Green Day | |

| seems strange that there is a general agreement on a u2 song! so here is my meaning, hope mix you up a bit :-). Bono is still griefing his Dad`s passing away. There is a similarity of the 'phone' thing which is common to the other u2 song 'sometimes you can`t make it on your own' which we all know that it is on his father`s death. Bono is the boy who is crying to get rescued from his father but now his father is not there anymore. Bono purposely packaged it on the hurricane katrina to create the usual vagueness :-) | |
