The lyrics speak of how crazy our world is. Chorus speaks of how fast a person can fall. The solo and guitaring from that point on to the end of the song is amazing.

Musical and lytrical high point for me - U2s best moment. Every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief All kill their inspiration and sing about their grief Tremendous.

the song for me is a song about life and the mixed up shite that life can be....and also the lies people tell and the lies they tell about others... the lines which start its not secret say it all... its also a song about love and how love can screw up your life if you dont watch out... love is based on truth, honesty and friendship.. love aint about checking up on people and trying to catch people out.... great song live.. great drum beat...great band

I forget where I heard this explanation, but it seems to fit well: It's a pay phone call from the Devil or someone else in Hell (Beelzebub, Lorrd of the Flies?) who likes it there on Judgement Day.. "It's no secret that the stars are falling from the sky" is, if I remember correctly, a reference to the Book of Revelation. "The universe exploded because of one man's lie" Judas, possibly?

Bono described it as a guy in hell talkig to someone still alive, about how bas things are but how much he likes it, symbolically or whatever. I like the sound of that. it fits the mood well. The song always sounded like "dark but lovin it". One of my favorites from U2.
