| " yeah isaac designs all the covers and takes the photographs for modest mouse and uc" Sorry, untrue! Although he no doubt usuialy has a hand in it, the only work credited to him entirely is the insert/cover/etc for Sad sappy sucker. Also, Ugly Casanova was a collaboratve effort, not everything was done entirely by Isaac. Look at Holopaw for example, Smoke Like Ribbons? That comes up in one of thier songs too, and lo and behold who the other UC Singer is! Isaac is amazing, dont get me wrong, but no need to give more credit than is deserved. Thinking Isaac became some sXe asshole to "write this album" is ignorant. Think about things like this before you post - a work like Sharpen your teeth isnt something thrown together in a month and a half or something like that. Things like this build up over time, with many influences, chemical, emotional, personal etc. | |

| friend and lovers, close or not, they have their life and you yours. the window part refers to situations of life and regrets. you don't have to understand their doings, and most of the time, dont want to get involved -therefore- "bury your head, i'll help you bury your hands." i'll paint my windows black so you can't see in, and hopefully, i won't see out. | |

| Actually, this entire CD was created on a clean period for Isaac. That could be the reason why the lyrics and music differ so greatly between Ugly Casanova and Modest Mouse. | |

| Actually, ive read that Issac was drunk and doing drugs of some sort when he wrote the lyrics to this album. We all know there is no Edgar Graham and it was just Issac making someone up, probably because he was on some type of drug(s) at the time. | |

| such a good song. ill comment on it here just because. I think its about a guy who is in helpless situation where he is shutting off to the people he once cared about and the people who care about him (painting his windows black). Hes been in relationships that end up bad and always sink no matter how hard he holds on to it (even though the ship sinks you know you can't let go). the music is beautiful and mellow itself, but the lyrics are depressing and paint such a sad image, what a good song | |

| The Other singer besides Isaac is the singer from Califone, and if you like UC you will probably like Califone too....Holopaw is another great band and the singer from that band is in UC too... I think he is the main singer on Smoke Like Ribbons-- it is all in the liner notes I guess. The opening line to this song is one of the best verses in all rock music! | |

| I like the lyrics that Isaac sings, especially "i don't know me & you don't know me & you don't know you, so we fit so good together cuz i knew you like i knew myself. we clung on like barnacles on a boat. even though the ship sinks, you know you can't let go." | |

| Barnacles are "any of numerous marine crustaceans (subclass Cirripedia) with feathery appendages for gathering food that are free-swimming as larvae but permanently fixed (as to rocks, boat hulls, or whales) as adults " The lines a minute into the song regarding a relationship are the most meaningful and depressing... we fit so good together cos i knew you like i knew myself we clung on like barnacles on a boat even though the ship sinks you know you can't let go | |

| this song makes me think. but the sound and flow of this and many other songs isaac has wrote just give you a good bad feeling in ways i cant eaxplain. like a feeling like as you live threw your life, you relize your living one big memory that is cut up and striped into a million diffrent times of your life you will never see or live threw again but remember like right now as you read this it will soon become a memory of your life wherever you are and you can look back at it but never ever live it again. you only live once so follow your dreams becuase when its over thats it ther is nothing after this life. you got one chance to make a dent like isaac did he made something of the time he has here cause he knows this is all we got one chance! | |

| Although this song is actually by Ugly Casanova, like ModestM said, I'll gladly share what I believe to be the meaning of this song. I feel like it's a huge contridiction. Even at the start-I don't need to see, I don't see how you see out of your window. I don't need to see, I'll paint mine black. There's obviously been some severed ties here, and he wants things back as they were, but at the same time he doesn't. And he knows they can't ever be. This contridiction is especially apparent during the bridge when he says "Black glass (you can't see out of black glass) dirt based soap (don't we wash dirt off with soap? what's the use in washing with soap that's dirt based) tell yourself what you know (tell yourself what you already know!?) problems are what a problem is. And it's true. It's a realization of detachment and useless attempts in resolving. | |
