Notes: The songs in 4/4 time so play the rhythm as shown and it will sound right.
For the verse use your thumb for the D and A strings and your index finger for the
G string. For the first part of the Chorus use your thumb for the low E string,
your middle finger for the high e string and your index for the B string. For the
second part of the Chorus use your thumb for the A string, your middle finger for
the B string and your index finger for the g string. Even if you lost your ring
and pinky fingers you should be able to play this song. This is as clear as I can
make playing this song.

| = quarter note

|_| = eigth note

o = whole note

I think the ponies are the girls that throwmetothespiders was talking about. They give them gifts but the girls are nothing special, just hotcha girls to be lusted over. Over all everything in this song is about growing old and becoming lonely as the years creep up on us.

I think it is about being old and recollecting a place like Coney Island that the narrator loved being at in young adulthood. Feelings of young love and living fast....fading away into a realization that the best times are over.

"turned out the ponies only had one trick, a wink for the truckstop boys" no matter how much these men would lust for these women, they could never have them. no matter what they did, the women could only give them a mere "wink".

Im glad that you are getting the world out about the hoax Pearl...one of the most persistant rumors I have ever heard. I also agree that the "We left our teeth marks on the barrell of a gun" refers to a very close brush with suicide....but I believe it to be an abstract statement and not some autobiographical statement from the songwriter. I dont know who wrote this song to be honest with you, but my guess is Tim Rutilli (sp). For those of you who know and love Modest Mouse and Ugly Casanova you should check out Holopaw and Califone....two of the other UC bandmembers main bands. Both are great, but so far I have found alot of good Califone.

I think that this song is just about having happy memories, but realizing that you're getting old. "You don't know that you'll rust and not belong so much and then get left alone." Rust being getting old, and having no friends. "Don't you know that old folks homes smell so much like my own." Just saying that he's getting old. Most beautiful song I've ever heard.

I think the line "we left our teeth marks on the barrell of a gun" is issac trying to have the world remember him. If your teeth marks are left in a gun (being famous, i think) you'll be remembered.

Teeth marks on the barrel of the gun-when you just do not have the guts to end it. seriously though, these songs were written by a crazy man who toured with Modest Mouse, they may little coherent meaning.

Really a good song, one of my favorite by UC. The line breaks and punctuation were the way it was in the CD insert, so I didn't tamper with them. I accidently put "workers all deaded south while it rained" but have already submitted a correction, so it should be changed soon. Enjoy, and get the album if you don't have it, it is really good.

Nobody has posted anything implying a song meaning, so i'll take the responsibility to briefly explain. hopefully somebody w / more time on their hands will elaborate or add his own piece of info. the opening lines are saying we are leaves on a tree, we begin to rust and turn into an older form. such as "old folks". hints "old folks home smell so much like my own", as in we really arn't all that different from the elderly. "then get left alone" could possibly mean death. im guessing hotcha girls are kind of like, "hootchie" girls, the young pretty girls all men lust over. when we get older and aapproach death we are left alone by these beutiful girls who are so important to us. the other versus like "we were dropping dimes on the ponies" i really have no idea about, maybe personal references to isaac's childhood memories? im not sure. In a nutshell it's about the people going through the elderly process and losing the relationships w/ young, pretty "hotcha" girls. instead they are only given "one trick, a wink for the truck stop boys".
