Van Halen,1984
by dsale@jax.jaxnet.com
done with Bucket o'Tab (get it from nevada.edu)
ok im gonna start off after the tapped/fingerpicked little intro, where the
picking comes in.I did this just messing around and thought id upload it,if
you really need the intro that bad email me.
There is some bass notes in the song that make the chords sound different and
wouldnt sound right without them, so i added them as well.
/tremelo picking.
--------------------------|-----------------------0-3-5--|
--------------------------|---------------5--------------|
-------------------0h2----|-----2h4--0h5-----0h5---------|
----------2-------2-------|------------------------------|
0h2--2h3-----2h3----------|------------------------------|
--------------------------|------------------------------|
bend up 1/2,bring back down
/
------------------------|-----0-----------------0-----------------------|
---------/--------------|-----0--------------1--1-----------------------|
---2--2--4h2-----4h2h0--|--2--2--------------2--2-----------------5--5--|
------------------------|--2--------2--2--2-----------------------5--5--|
------------------------|--0--------0--0--0--------0--0--0--0--0--3--3--|
------------------------|--------4--------------------------------------|
^^Repeat this twice, then third time add in:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------:) all the notes played
---------------------------------------------------1----------------------:) at the fourth fret
---------------------------------------------------2----------------------:) are bent up one
---------------------------------------------------3--| half step and vi-:)
---0-----0-----------0--------0--0--0-----0--0----------------------------:) brated.(Listen to the
-----*4-----4--4--4-----4--4-----------4--------5-----| damn song.-------:)
i didnt add in that first fast lick thingee he does in between doing the
last part twice because i cant make out what notes he is doing by just
listening to it and i couldve slowed it down w/my computer but i havent got
around to it.anywayz, right before the verses is:
----t-----t------t---|
--/------------------|
7--(12)--(14)--(19)--| the frets in parenthesis.Like you didnt know that.
---------------------|
---------------------| now the verses.
---------------------|
Lazy Eyes In the Summer..
-------------------5-------------------------|
----5-----3-----5--6-----3------5\3--5--5\3--|
----4-----2-----4--5-----2------4-2--5--5-3--|
---------------------------------------------|
---------------------------------------------|
---------------------------------------------|
and thats pretty much what makes up the verses.Next is the little ditty in-
between the verses and chorus, and the harmonics that is in the chorus.
(fingerpicked--------------------->)
---10h9------------------------------|---------------------------------|
---10----13--12--11--10--9--8--7--6--|---------------------------------|
---9-----12--12--10--10--9--8--7--6--|-------(5)------------(7)--(12)--|
-------------------------------------|--(5)-------(5)--(7)-------------|
-------------------------------------|---------------------------------|
-------------------------------------|---------------------------------|
Next is that thing after the first chorus.
------------------------------------------------|
------------------------------------------------|
------------------------------------------------|
------------------5--------7--7--7--9--9--9-----|
------------2--3--3--3--5--5--5--7--7--7--8--3--|
---------0-----------------------------------1--|
Now the sections before the solo. This first part is played twice. The second
part leads into the solo.
---------------------------------|-----------------------------------|
----------------------3h2--0-----|-----------------------------------|
2--------2/-\---x--x--2----2--0--|-----------------------------------|
2--------2--------------------0--|-----4--3~~~--4~~~-----4--3~~~--4--|
0--------0-----------------------|-----------------------------------|
---4~~~-----------------------3--|--2-----------------2--------------|
--------------------------------trem.picking------------|
--------------7------------------~~~----~~~----~~~------|
--------------7--7--6~~~--7-----9-----11-----12-----14--|
----------/---7-----------------------------------------|
--------------------------------------------------------|
--------------------------------------------------------|
play again,exept substitute ^ (the above trem.picking) w/:
----------------------------------------------|
--------------7h6-----6h5----------5h4-----3--|
-------------------0--------------------0-----|
---------0h7--7h6-----6h5-----0h5--5h4-----3--|
----------------------------------------------|
And thats all ive done.I didnt do the solo, like i said,i was just trying out
this tab program and while messing with it i was tabbing it out,and thought

THE best Roth era Van Halen song. We all remember how much fun the band was, but this song had a dark melodic tone to it that always seems to me to be a reflection of where the band was at the end. The swan song of the Roth era. It's my favorite, but also makes me sad because it was the end. Same feeling I get when I hear Zeppelin's "Achilles Last Stand".

Wicked tune! About a new hooker on the strip Dave is infatuated with.
