What a load of old bollocks!! It's a song about treenage lust and trying to get your girl behind the bike shed or in the long grass...remember when Van wrote this!!

I know this site is called "song meanings" but cant you people leave you other people alone? Here are some fine individuals who have some very fond memories of this song that involves people they love, and you other people come on and try to taint them. Im not sayin you other people are wrong, just dont delight in ruining it for others. Oh yeah and i love this song no matter what meaning it might possess.

um, no, not about anal sex. Van's singing about childhood love and his first sexual experience (hence the 'new game'). Van said that it's not what everyone thinks it is because it's supposed to be purely sexual, not sentimental and washed out like everyone interprets it to be. and word to Sweet Thing. Definitely the best Van song ever.

van morrison is my favorite artist. i love him to a level of pure obsession. this song is beautiful, but not one of his best. but...i guess i love it in the same way that i love "night moves" by bob segar. it just reminds me of purely blissful and enjoyable moments that almost everyone experiences in their teenage years.
