Venus in Furs

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
Whiplash girl-child in the dark
Comes in bells, your servant, don't forsake him
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

Downy sins of streetlight fancies
Chase the costumes she shall wear
Ermine furs adorn the imperious
Severin, Severin awaits you there

Chorus:
I am tired, I am weary
I could sleep for a thousand years
A thousand dreams that would awake me
Different colors made of tears

Kiss the whip of shiny, shiny leather
Shiny leather in the dark
Tongue of thongs, the belt that does await you
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

Severin, Severin, speak so slightly
Severin, down on your bended knee
Taste the whip, in love not given lightly
Severin, taste the whip, now plead for me

Chorus

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
Whiplash girl-child in the dark
Comes in bells, your servant, don't forsake him
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

I'm so glad to see Last Days fans. Everyone I showed it to thought is was too incomprehensible and boring.

This has got to be the sexiest song of all time. So psychadelic and beautiful. It's always seemed to me to be about BDSM, pleasure in pain

the purpose behind it all seems to be significantly altered when the large overtones are psychedelic. it appears that would be the domination in question, more or less a submission to substance. this is however however openly opinionated. (But there was factually an abundance of chemicals in the factory)

I wasn't into this song until I saw "Last Days" There's a scene where a character puts this song on, sits down and sings to it. It's very beautiful, and was my favorite scene in the film. The lyrics work very well with the plot as well.

I think there's more levels in it than just S/M. In Last Day there's some kind of dominating releationship between the main character and the guy listening this song in one scene of the movie. I think it's also about relationship where man is dominated and humiliated mentally by woman - or other way around - mainly by sex. I also thought the images of the song like venus in furs, boots of leather, Downy sins of streetlight fancies etc.I understand venus as a feminive symbol - read "pussy" - and venus in furs, well, you get the point. Also I thought that maybe "boots of leather" and "streetlight fancies" refer to a prostitution. Well anyway, it's a great song.

Venus in Furs was, off the top of my head, a book written by Baron Sadler-Masoch about his unusual relationship with a girl that eventually gave birth to the term 'Masochism', i.e., to gain sexual enjoyment from being hurt. I think 'Severin' might have been the name of a character from the book. Anyway, it's about S & M isn't it?

Severin isn't the guy's name, it's what his abusive aunt used to call him. Later in life, he finds a domanatrix and gets her to dress like his aunt, call him "Severin", and treat him like she did, because it turns him on or somehing.

Great song from THE indie band. It's about bondage, sado-masochism and sex, if you hadn't guessed from the lyrics.

Another Velvets song with "underbelly of life" subject matter. I love the expression in this song. The way he draws out "cuuuure his heart" -- it sounds so sinister and subversive, just the perfect fit for the lyrics.

Yeah, Last Days sure was something. Venus in Furs is one of the greatest psychedelic audio trips I've ever heard. Me and my girlfriend dazed off to this song in a weekend full of peyote and san pedro. I hate almost every neo-psychedelia band, mostly because alot of them think they're all that for stealing riffs from The Beatles. On Last Days, I noticed in the background that everyone was in some kind of trance, almost some ritualistic acid dance? Anyways, probably one of my favorite songs. Venus in Furs is all about hallucinogens and sex, from the 'shiny boots of leather' line to the Different colors made of tears line. Latex sex anyways.

bocmaxima - me too.. I actually didn't know about this song at all until Last Days.. you're right, beautiful scene. It was almost a video representation of the song.. not a music video, but something more. Definetely a great song under pot etc.. and same with the visualizer, CowboyDanCarson1.. it's on my Realplayer right now.

Yes, Last Days is a fanfuckingtastic movie at that, I'm also excited for "Factory Girl" Extremely excited. In fact, Weezer is to play the Velvet underground, I say bring back Yo La Tengo from "I shot Andy Warhol" Anyways, its obvious that this song is about S&M In fact, My friend and I threw a party with this song being the central theme, it was a ball.

I am tired, I am weary I could sleep for a thousand years A thousand dreams that would awake me Different colors made of tears ...the greatest stanza ever written by the velvets....by anyone for that matter...i find this song as a definition for so much in my life...mainly because an order follows a choice and i just get pissed off about it...why should i care what others want...why should i care what i want...perception is a blackhole...wdc

Man, i just love this song, me and my friends get stoned and stare at the visualizer on our computers while this song is playing, what an exciting life huh? but it's fun as hell, pretty trippy too, yeah after you posted that thing, Chloe Le Fay, about him being dominated and what not, it all made perfect sense!

Speaking of covers: I think there's a universal law that says anyone covering this song is going to sound brilliant. Christian Death and Devotchka have both covered the song; the former with a sort of industrial sound to it, the latter with a more pop sound. They're both spectacular, and worth checking out. Regardless, this is Velvet Underground's best and one of the greatest songs ever written to this day.
