FEMME FATALE
Velvet Underground
Cmaj7 Fmaj7
Here she comes
Cmaj7 Fmaj7
You better watch your step
Cmaj7 F Dm G
She's gonna break your heart in two, yes it's true
Cmaj7 Fmaj7
It's not hard to realize
Cmaj7 Fmaj7
Just look into her false colored eyes
Cmaj7 F Dm G
She'll bring you up just to put you down, what a clown
CHORUS
C F
Cos everybody knows (she's a femme fatale)
C F
The things she does to please (she's a femme fatale)
C F
She's just a little tease (she's a femme fatale)
Dm Bb G
Just see the way she walks and hear the way she talks
You're written in her book
Number 47 have a look
She's going to play you for a fool, it's true
The voices in the street
Before you start you're already beat
She's going to smile just to make you frown, what a clown
CHORUS
CHORUS

| Lou Reed: "Andy said I should write a song about Edie Sedgwick. I said 'Like what?' and he said, 'Oh, don't you think she's a femme fatale, Lou?' So I wrote 'Femme Fatale' and we gave it to Nico." | |

| Yep, femme fatale IS about Edie Sedgwick. Andy Warhol told Lou to write a song about her because he thought she was a "femme fatale." | |

| I cant believe you dont like the accent SML. Its perfect. Nobody can attract you like a sexy blonde German woman who seems to spell danger. And when she uses that "Ice Queen" accent to get aloof and put you off--well you arent going to get anywhere. I met a woman like that about a year ago and Im still not over her. | |

| It is hard to make out when Nico is singing, but when Lou sings on the '69 live album, the number is clearly "47" not "37." | |

| It seems so psychological and dark but also fragile and beautiful at the same time. Nico lures you into the song, and you're trapped from then onwards. It seems like you enter someone's very delicate state of mind when you listen to this song, and you can't decide if it suits you or the troubled character in the song better. It plays tricks with my head, and I like it for some unexplainable reason. A perfect snapshot of a memory. | |

| A "femme fatale" is a woman who uses her looks to win people's attention and admiration, but then screws them over. So I'm assuming that this song is about one such woman. | |

| ...and upon further investigation, it IS about Edie Sedgwick. Lou says so in his intro to the song on the Quine Tapes album. And I believe Lou of all people. | |

| In another live intro, he also said that it is about a really truly mean person who takes advantage of your vulnerability. Then he says, "You thought it'd be 'European Son', didn't you?" and starts playing this song. I guess Edie Sedgwick was mean to him. | |

| As a few of you already mentioned it's about Edie. A request from Warhol. Although Dylan wrote Like A Rolling Stone in 1965 before they had their fling, so that is false. | |

| All I know is that in the intro to this song on the Live 1969 album, Lou Reed says: "This is a song called 'Femme Fatale' which we wrote about someone who was one and has since been committed to an institution for being one and will one day maybe open up a school to train others." | |

| I have read that it is possibly about Edie Sedgwick. (the same person Dylan's 'Like A Rolling Stone' & 'Leapord-Skin Pillbox Hats' is purportedly about) and The Cult's 'Edie (Ciao Baby)' | |
