VERTICAL HORIZON LYRICS

"Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)"
(Standard Tuning) G Am C D Em F B..{intro 2x)

G Am
So you sailed away
C G D
Into a grey sky morning
G Am
Now I'm here to stay
C G D
Love can be so boring

Am Em Am
Nothing's quite the same now
Em D
I just say your name now

[Chorus]
G Am
But it's not so bad
C G D Em
You're only the best I ever had
Am
You don't want me back
C G D G
You're just the best I ever had

(Bridge)
F G
And it may take some time to
C B Am
Patch me up inside
F G Em
But I can't take it so I
F
Run away and hide
F G
And I may find in time that
C B Am
You were always right
G F G
You're always right

Well this is my very first attempt but I think I did OK... It's a pretty easy song although
I saw a lot of complicated versions of this Tab that I didn't think were correct..so I
thought I'd have a go, let me know what you think! ~Lindsay~

well this song is about my recent X im sure of it lol. I think it's about someone who was totally differend from anyone you have ever dated. someone who teaches you things about life that mean every thing and change who you are forever. For some reason this person leaves ur life and you are devistated and in this state of poor me it's not soo bad ur only the best freakin thing ive ever had like i don't mind loseing you yeah right or at least thats how I feel about my x

This song seems like it was written for me and my situation. I have always been the girl that everybody thought was ugly, until this guy came into my life. He changed me in a way nobody had ever affected me. We had to break up because my parents disagreed with my relationship with him, but he will always be the "best I ever had".

I think it's about a break up and the guy really misses the girl and wants her back....but she keeps sending him those "I don't need you" or "I don't want you" signals. And then at the end of the song, he realizes, while she might have been the best...he doesn't want her back anymore.

Queen_of thething, I totally agree with your interpretation. But I'm kind of happy when I hear this song. I think of my bastard ex-bf and I picture him trying to get over the realization that he let a good thing go. It's very therapeutic for me. It's also quite tragically romantic, that someone could think of another as "the best he ever had."

I think the song is about a guy who loves a girl that doesn't love him back anymore and he loves her so much he is willing to let her go.

I think its about feeling like you screwed up the relationship but you don't want to be hurt again so your giving up and don't want them back even though they're the *best you ever had*

this song is great. to me it's saying 'hey, who cares if you don't want me anymore? i don't. it's just you're the best person i've ever been with' kinda in a sarcastic way. he's trying to give the impression that he doesn't care, but in reality, it hurts him really bad.

She's gone, and there's nothing he can do. The only thing he can cheer himself up with is, "It's not so bad, She's only the best I ever had" meaning she may have been everything to me, but there still may be something out there...

To me it's about two people that were in a relationship and one of them had to go away somewhere so they ended it. The other person didn't want this to happen and asks him/her back. When they refuse they decide that they just has to live with it In the end it is better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all. And although it's hard right now they'll just have to get over it. They can't see it right now but maybee in time they'll come to relise the other person was right and it was best to end the relationship.

This song reminds me of a very good friend of mine - I've screwed up a lot of things between us. The "best I've ever had" line doesn't mean love for me, its just he's my best friend, and I'm a complete idiot for screwing things up the way I did.

Im thinking lifehouse covered this song, because vertical horizon have been together alot longer than lifehouse has been. To me this song is basically what you all said. Pretending not to miss someone and sarcastically saying its not so bad, your only the best i ever had.

This may be one of the saddest songs I have ever heard. I cried the first time I heard it and still struggle to keep myself together when I hear it. It hurts when the best you ever had has "sailed away". It shows the stages one will go through. Dealing with the other not wanting you, then not even having a need for you then the denial stage as I see it, i dont want you back. I mean maybe the meaning of the song is getting over someone, but to me that last part is the most painful because it makes me see how all that you can do for yourself is be in denail, especially when that's the best you ever had. ."well its not so bad.." "But I can't take it so I runaway and hide." Well, this is just a very painful song to listen to even thought it's been almost 3 years for me.

The lyrics to this song describe how I feel about my ex-boyfriend. He made me feel like I was the most beautiful person he'd ever met, but my parents didn't agree with the relationship. They kept us apart for as long as they could and we ended it last week because of them disapproving of our relationship. He was one of the best of friends that I have ever had and he will always be the 'best I ever had'.

i can really relate to this song... kinda reminds me of someone i met but we didnt get the chance to spend long time together... though i really don't know him very well, i still consider him as the one of the greatest thing that happened to me... funny that i only spent less than a month knowing him but it seems like forever when it comes to loving him... so i sailed away into a grey sky morning... now i'm here to stay...love can be so boring... especially when you have no one to share it with...

To me it's someone pretending not to care that the relationship is over, even though they really still do care about the person.
