C'mon people - The girls have been quoted as saying Seether is about a cat. A *pussy* cat. This is a song about pussy, plain and simple. I'd try to be more appropriate, but this is rock and roll, and it's pretty clear.

Seether is a slang term for a girl lusting after another girl (lesbianism).

It wouldn't surprise if a certain male-dominated band took their new name after they heard this song, but they changed it after because their original name was from a certain nerve poison. As for this song, it's pretty good. Not my favorite, but probably the best I ever heard from that mid-90's angst-ridden female rock era, right after "You Oughta Know".

One thing here is incorrect. The line from volocano girls that says the seether is louise is actually taken almost word for word from a beatles song. I dont know which song but thats where it comes form. The name louise is actually used in the song. It just happened to work in the favor of Nina and Louise. The Beatles reference was perfect since the album title "Eight Arms to Hold You" was taken from an alternate name used for a beatles album. And the song is definately about anger. Nina said so in an interview. So darianess is right.

Interesting....I had no idea that's what they were talking about. Oh, and the little part from "Volcano Girls" is a neat little reference to "I Am the Walrus" & also "Glass Onion" by the Beatles. There's a verse in "Glass Onion" that goes: "I told you about the walrus and me – man. You know that we’re as close as can be – man. Well here’s another clue for you all The walrus was Paul. " Very cool. :)

Whenever people have said "wtf is this song all about?" I've never understood because this is one of the only songs that's ever made sense to me on the first listen! The seether is a different side to a person, the angry side that can only be seen when something pisses them off. And this person is always trying to control this side of themself but its not always possible. Great song - can definitely relate.

About pussy?? Are you kidding me? Its the exact opposite. Its obviously about a young woman's infatuation with a man's cock and his cum. Seether is neither big nor small. Seether is the center of it all. I tried to rock her in my cradle, I tried to knock her out, I tried to cram her back in my mouth, yeah. Keep her down, boiling water, Keep her down, what a lovely daughter. Oh, she is not born like other girls, But I know how to conceive her. Oh, she may not look like other girls, But she's a snarl-toothed seether, seether! Can't fight the seether I can't see her till I'm foaming at the mouth, yeah. =============== Those lines right there tell the story. Never understood all the confusion over this song back when it came out. Me and my other girlfriends in college at the time knew what she meant. I always hated how Veruca Salt would never come clean about the true meaning of this song.

I agree with Lougolas and darianess. It's about trying to control your anger, and seeing another side to yourself when you become so angry.

I think it comes from when you're seething with anger and lose control. You're so angry that you can't control your own actions, the person who's in control is "the seether". There's a girl who lives inside us all called the seether and she comes out when we're mad, even if we try to stop her. I like the line from "Volcano Girls" - "the seether's Louise" - because my name's Louise and I get that way sometimes.

Nina Gordon wrote this song after having a fight with a friend. She had a seething vision of herself dragging her friend's face against the pavement because she wouldn't agree with her. Nina was really suprised that she could even imagine it, and believed it was a seething anger taking her over...hence the seether.

Since I'm a geek I looked up the dictionary definition of 'seether' when I heard this and it said "a pot for boiling water; a boiler" and that made things clearer for me.
