the kind of humming bit at the end is so sweet, I love it. Yes, I KNOW that had nothing to do with these lyrics so no one needs to say it, OK?

I agree with RebelPancake. That's what I thought when I first heard it. This is one of my favorites. So calm and mellow... Rock on, Jazz

This song is my favorite on the whole album. It's just so mellow and short. It keeps me wanting some more. Yea he does have a nice voice. Who am I to be this way Dreamin so insane This is my favorite part. I don't know how he intended for this part to mean. Maybe one day I will figure it out.

The lyrics describes a person who feels that they are true to their image. Whatever you see on the outside is what you see on the inside for him/her for they are transparent. However there is that haunting feeling that he/she doesn't know themselves even though they feel transparent and makes him/her feel inadequate because no one really relates to them. That's why he/she sounds "fucking mad." Its because no one understands that for the narrator looking at the autumn shade is looking at herself/himself.

The vines are fucking awesome, but they confuse me. Are they very Beatles-esque, or more Nirvava influenced? Its pretty equal if you ask me, and a cross between the beatles and nirvana, thats pretty good goin if you ask me

maybe this song is about how craig feels about people who may have told him to give up music in his past. called him lazy, or good-for-nothing. "who am i to be this way. dreaming so insane." might be a referance to other peoples oppinion of the "impossible" goal of making in the music world.

Craig and Patrick in an interview: Craig: “ This is the first acoustic song on the album and it’s very quiet, very peaceful. It’s calm. It’s not really intentionally linked to Autumn Shade on the first album, but of course in the title, well, you have to think it’s linked somehow. It’s more about the feel of the song than the words, though. It really couldn’t have been called anything else. It’s pretty abstract.” Patrick: “ Short. Soft. The harmonies are amazing. No, I didn’t sing them. Craig did. I don’t need to be doing that type of thing in the studio when he’s in there. He seems to have a pretty good handle on singing five different harmonies over himself, something I think is well demonstrated on this track.” Craig: “ Thank you, thank you.” Patrick: “ You’re welcome.

As far as the lyrics go... Instead of ought to know me, he says "Her to know me, but why even know yourself"... And then, instead of you are white, and I am gray, he says "You am I, and I am great" Just figured I'd clear it up. it's all in the lyrics booklet.

I agree with animalmachine. "you am I, and I am great" - I like to think of this as being sarcastic. Very depressing, atthough it makes me feel better when I get depressed. humm....

This song is depressing. But that doens't mean it's bad. I think "Look through me because I am transparent" is reffering to him being sad, and feeling hallow. I'm sure you've had that feeling. "Hard to know me, but why even know yourself" Yeah, it's acually 'hard to know me'. Just a tip. This one confused me for a while, but I think that it means something like, it's hard to know someone, if you don't even know who you are. "I'm beginning to need all that I can't have" Even though he has everything (being that he's a singer with millions of dollors) there are still things money can't buy that he wants. "I'm succeeding to speak like I'm fucking mad" When you're sad it seems like everything that is making you down is stupid things that shouldn't bother you. Or atleast to me... That's my imput. I could be wrong.

what is autumn shade? is that his way of describing a state of mind of some sort of depression? first verse- if autumn shade is sadness, than this makes sense. Slip into the autumn shade- slip into a depression I could sleep for days- sleep to get away But I Iike the sun when I can hear another sound- he wants to be happy, (sun= something that makes him happy?) he doesn't want to be alone It's a long way down Keep my head up- try to be happy no matter what comes his way. second verse- i don't have a specific idea of what this verse could mean, i'm thinking along the lines of he has no reasons to be sad, (who am i to be this way?) and he doesn't know why his dreams are odd. again, the sun reference with a different line following it, maybe when he fails at something a specific something keeps him happy. he wants to be happy. (keep my head up) i have no background information on the vines, i just wanted to analyze something by them because the song is lovely. do tell me if i'm wrong. (i most likely am, i over-analyze)

I wouldn't be quite so specific with what each thing stands at. I think its a song between happiness and Melancholy. Autumn and shade are both states of transistion. From summer to winter from light to dark. This song I would say is about being inbetween places. I would call it a happy sad song. He's on the verge of happiness or despair and the dream like music helps give it the sound of somewhere near delerium. A very calm and peaceful sort of maddness.
