Lyrics:

Come on Dad,
Gimme the car tonight.
Come on Dad,
Gimme the car tonight.
I got this girl,
I wanna
Come on Dad,
Gimme the car.

Come on Dad,
Gimme the car tonight.
I'll tell you what,
I'll tell you what I'm gonna do.
I'm gonna pick her up,
I'm gonna get her drunk,
I'm gonna make her cry,
I'm gonna get her high,
I'm gonna make her laugh,
I'm gonna make her shhhhhhhh...
woman, woman, woman,
Shit I know she's it.
Cuz I'm gonna touch her,
All over her body,
Gonna touch her,
All over her body,
Gonna touch her,
All over her body,
Gonna touch her,
All over her body.
And she can touch me,
All over my body,
She can touch me,
All over my body,
She can touch me,
All over my body,
She can touch me,
All over my body.

Time goes by,
I can feel myself growing old.
Burning inside,
Is making this boy turn out cold.

What's wrong,
What's right,
Ya know I don't care,
When I hate my life.
What's wrong,
What's right,
Ya know people don't care,
When they hate their life.

But how can I explain,
Personal pain?
How can I explain,
Personal pain?
How can I explain,
My voice is in vain.
How can I explain,
The deep down driving,
Driving,
Driving,
We're driving,
We're driving,
We're driving.

Hey Dad,
Speaking of driving,
Come on Dad,
Give me the car tonight.

So much he don't understand,
Just might never make it to a man.

Come on Dad,
Give me the car tonight,
Come on Dad,
I ain't no runt,
Come on girl,
Gimme your .

Cuz I ain't had much to live for.
I ain't had much to live for.
You know, I ain't had much to live for.
You know, I ain't had much to live for.

This is just meant to be a supplement to the already existing file at OLGA.
I figured out a few more of the guitar parts including the little solo thing
that Gordon does near the end. Granted, neither part that I'm posting is
that difficult to play but It's not any less difficult than the already
existing file, either. Have fun with it,regardless.

"Gimme The Car"(G.Gano)

performed by violent femmes on "violent femmes"(1983)
supplemental guitar parts transcribed by Bryson Meunier
many thanks to the poster of the original chord file

At the very end of the intro the guitar stops playing chords and plays
something like this:

E--------------------------------------------|
B--------------------------------------------|
G--2b-r---2b--r----2b--(19)*slide back up*|
D--------------------------------------------|
A--------------------------------------------|
E--------------------------------------------|

After the "burning inside is making this boy turn out cold" part, play this:

E-------------------------------------------|
B-------------------------------2-----------|
G-------------------------------2-----------|
D---2--3--2--3--2--3--2--3--2---2-----------|
A-------------------------------0-----------|
E-------------------------------------------|

After Gordon says "so much he don't understand, just might never make it to
a man" play this little solo thing:

E------------------------------------------|
B--------------------------------------0---|
G-----------------------2-----------0--0---|
D---2-2--0--------------2--0--------0--0---|
A-----------3-3--0---0--------3--3--0------|
E------------------------------------------|
hold,then slide
E------------------------------------------|
B--2--(15)--------------------------------|
G--2--(15)--------------------2(12)------|
D--2--(15)---------0----------2(12)------|
A-------------0--3-----0---0-----------0--3|
E------------------------------------------|

E------------------------------------------|
B-----------2--2---------------------------|
G-----------2--2---------------------------|
D-----0-----2--2---------------------------|
A--3-----0--0--0---------------------------|
E------------------------------------------|

That's about all that I was able to figure out. Nonetheless, it does supply
most of the remaining guitar parts to the song. If you know any more, please
don't hesitate to post. Send any questions, comments or corrections to
meunier.1@osu.edu

symbols used in transcription:
b = bend
r = release
(19) = slide(up to 19)

*boing*! indeed! And I agree with the Master_deabater... You would have to be totally out of touch with the angst-filled teen in you not to realise what this song is about... The desperation of trying to 'get some' while you live with your folks... Not having a car of your own... Having to practically beg permission to have a life.... And they're supposed to be the best years of your life? SO glad I made it to my 20's, I assure you it all get's better!

I think this song is really funny... I imagine a teenager staring at his father, crossing his finger and thinking to himself "CMON Dad, gimme the car...". It makes me smile every time I hear it.

This song is about teenage angst. If you can't figure that out from reading the lyrics, you're inept. This song is actually pretty insightful, reflecting back on my teens...dad refusing to give you the car on the night of something that is important... sexually charged frustration, etc.

^ i hope you're right, i'm kinda banking on that. this song is like modest mouse's song 'the good times are killin' me' which is so true....best fuckin' years of my life. what the hell are they all talkin' about? no fuckin' freedom. i can't even choose my own religion. (which would be none, but that's just too liberal.)
