I think it's about this dorky guy who likes a girl, who might also be a dork but is still pretty to him, and is approaching her. Maybe she's getting made fun of, and he's trying to protect her or make her feel better. If only Cuomo were as nice as the guys in his songs.

This sound sounds be me to be about devotion and willingness to defend a best friend (girlfriend?) of his. "What's with these homies, dissin' my girl Why do they gotta front What did we ever do to these guysi That made them so violent " --sounds to me like his friend is facing some sort of descrimination. The "homeies" are dissing on her, even though they never did anything to them. "Woo-hoo, but you know I'm yours Woo-hoo, and I know you're mine Woo-hoo, and that's for all time " --statement of devotion: I'm yours, always, no matter what. "Woo-ee-oo I look just like Buddy Holly Oh-oh, and you're Mary Tyler Moorei I don't care what they say about us anyway I don't care 'bout that " --all I get about this part is the "I don't care what they say about us anyway", which is obvious in meaning. "Don't you ever fear, I'm always there I know that you need help Your tongue is twisted, your eyes are slit You need a guardian " --for some reason, this always conjures up the image of perhaps someone of asian decent for me, that is facing perhaps descriminiation. He's saying: "You need a guardian, and I am it, because of these characteristics (twisted tounge, slite eyes..)" "Bang! Bang a knock on the door another big bang and your down on the floor " --I always picture an intruder, knocking on the door. The third bang could be the door coming down, or a shot being fired. Perhaps a hate crime in progress? "Oh no! what do I do? Don't look know but I lost my shoe I can't run and I can't kick " --for some reason, they can't leave. I think lost shoes must be a metaphor, but I'm not sure for what. Anyway, something is keeping them from running... "What's a matter babe are you feelin' sick? what's a matter, what's a matter, what's a matter you? What's a matter babe, are you feelin' blue? oh-oh!" --sick could be hit by a bullet, or perhaps otherwise injured by the intruders. perhaps it's simply a physical reaction to the strong emotions brought by that type of crime. Anyway, it's a grim inturp, I know, but seems to make sense to me. It's also hopeful in that someone could be that devoted to someone. Suggestions? --Grish

I don't really think this song has any true secret meaning. I think it's about a relationship (platonic or romantic) between a woman and a man, and the man just continues to defend it (and her) no matter what other people say. It's just a fun song. And as for "don't look now, but I lost my shoe", I don't think that's has a meaning, it's just a crazy line.

This song is great. The video made it cool to dress in tight pants. OK, most people would disagree, but it's getting to the stage of being cool.

I didn't know what relationship Buddy Holly and Mary Tyler Moore had. So I looked it up: The Crickets wrote and performed the theme song used for The Mary Tyler Moore Show for seven seasons.

Rivers said "It's about a particular girl I knew... It's about my commitment to her... our relationship... and, er, my willingness to defend her. It's very platonic. Not a romantic thing at all." I assume that this girl may or may not have looked like Mary Tyler Moore.

one of the few songs i'm quite happy to sit mindlessly and smile to... even if it has a hidden grim meaning, the 'don't look now but i lost my shoe' just makes me laugh n i dunnos why... :o) x~X~x
