| No one has yet really mentioned this and i'm very surprised, but i think its about COCAINE. Jack White picks up a bag of coke, thinks its sugar and he's like...wow..this is some good sugar...and maybe the water at the end was like vodka or something...i dont no probably wrong...but still...sumthin 2 think about. | |

| I'm suprised no one interperated any subtle sexual mesage in this. "Sugar never tasted good to me Until her eyes crossed over " Now what could he be tasteing that wasn't so appealing until this girls eyes crossed? Until he realized how it made her feel. And what kinda of puppet strings could he be pulling that would make him feel like his fingers had become a "crane", moving someone around. Well if none of that means anything to you, then try to image why when all this is done and she happy, he is so happy to taste water again. | |

| If it was about oral sex then there wouldn't be a baby now would there? I think this is about going off with a girl for the first time. "Just like a baby" could refer to the first time he was satisfied and so briefly had no sex drive. The "Water never tasted so good" bit is him enjoying a more mundane life and now he's learnt his lesson about getting girls pregnant. (It's not based on actual events, incase you're wondering.) | |

| I disagree with Joshua_Can_Funk. I think there are some hints that the relationship turned sexual prematurely ("I felt just like a baby / Until I held a baby") but I agree with the way many of the other commenters have interpreted the song: a relationship that started off well and ended badly. "Sugar never tasted so good" before the relationship, but by the end of it "Water never tasted so good." I think the relationship started off very affectionate and (though many would probably disagree, since only two lines of the song support this) this might have even led to having a baby ("I felt just like a baby / Until I held a baby" - meaning he was still young and immature and was forced to come to terms with fatherhood). Obviously, the theme of immaturity is present throughout the song ("And her mind like a daisy's* / Oh how my mind gets lazy / I must've been foolish not to see). So, I would say the song is a bout a relationship between two people who were not ready for the responsibilities it brought about, and the way it ended badly. * The lyrics displayed here are incorrect, if you listen closely to the song, he says "daisy's" not "daisy" | |

| Well here is my interpretation. Everyone loves sugar, its sweet, atleast somewhere along, when u were a child atleast, u wudve loved sugar. Jack starts by saying, even sugar didnt taste good to him....until he met his dream girl...which is clear in "Until her eyes crossed over Until her mind crossed over Until her soul fell next to me" meaning, they saw each other, fell in love and their souls came together. The next bit is on how he feels like a puppet in her hands, he loves her so much, that she has complete control over him. Then he starts saying how crazyly in love he is, repeating "what a feeling thats begun" And he feels like a baby sometimes, lost in love, all excited whenever he is with her. What a fool he had been all along....He ends the song saying after he has fallen in love, even water tastes so good to him... | |

| ive heard this song was kinda weird like that...i really didnt want to believe it, so i hope this is a song like 'the meaning is watever the listener makes it out to be' i think the beginning has to do with teenage 'wants' if u will and then they both got married and r seeing wat adultery truly is with all those problems they started and then the water-sugar thing is wat he feels at that time sugar is the 'exceitment' of doing these things...erg and water is saying that he feels happy being relaxed | |
