Great song, especially during the "And if there is a lie, then there is a liar too"-part, Jacks voice just gets cooler right there.

Oh how I love this song... I just have to say that... I don't really have any suggestions as to what it's about... I guess it's one of those songs that a lot of people can interpret to be able a certain girl or guy... I sure can

This is an intense song. I like the divergence of Jack's exhausted, haunting voice breaking through the red rain. If the red rain is the veil of lies this girl lives in, then Jack's voice may represent her conscience prodding her. This voice is backed up by the dreamlike tinkling of an instrument similar a child's toy piano. It reminensces of a time in her childhood when she had an innate sense of right and wrong (or what was true and what was a lie). But now she tries to convince herself that white lies are not really lies. She has also convinced herself that lying by omission even absolves her of her sins. But in the early hours of the morning, her conscience creeps in and tries to connect her to her lies and sins. After the intro, it seems that this conscientious voice gets lost in the hammering rain (heavy drum beats and guitar chords) and screams to be heard. Why is it red, red rain? Perhaps these lies are all emcompassing and emotionally devastating to others.

Artbeat- this song is like a mystery for solving with clues that don't seem to connect. Your bits and pieces seem "most likely" to help connect them altogether. There are live performance clips that sometime Jack substitutes "I'm the blood, you're the vein" in place of "in the red, in the rain" repeating it. Sort of gives another angle to the song, no? Some thoughts? Anyone?

well.. weezday is apparently the winner of the hour.. lol i agree with that but i do have a bit of input.. when he says "You think not tellin' is the same as not lyin', don't you? Then I guess not feelin' is the same as not cryin' to you" of course he is refering to the girl not telling and thinking that she isnt lieing but the next oart i think is about her thinking he isnt feelin about her cheating on him just because he isnt crying.. that may have been thought about or said but i didnt see it up there.. and i dont think he killed the guy i think he just beat him up pretty good.. like he is on the ground bleeding right into the rain water on the street.. oh and i like how artbeat said that when the music is loud its the rain and storms and he is yelling over them to the girl in the house.. cool.

its amazing live, yea and this has some very dark themes like wat weezday said, but i dont think it means actually killing him, just injuring him so much in his rampage of hate sounds like this is about complete anger, rage, and jealousy well ive heard that jack has a temper on him, but i dont think i should really make a connection with this and something that happened a while ago

I just purchased the GBMS album for myself lately, it's first white stripe album i got for myself. I'm not American, and not quite "into" blue grass or country or what have you, but i found white stripes songs easy listening especially doorbell, little ghost. When I heard red rain , not really the kind of music that you could hum to in between sleepy moments and boredom or share like other pop song, and thought it was the least liked piece for me in the album. Then I saw them perform this on Conan. I guess that is what I find "worthy" of appreciation for me for the white stripes, when I hear them perform their songs live I get to like it, unlike if i just listen to the records. So seeing the show, I never thought I got to like it and find myself playing it in my head (sometimes) between sleepy and boredom. I guess it's a song that has to be performed with real passion as it is one very passionate song. Don't get to really see what it means but I guess it's one angry song, with a lot of insinuations or backlashing to another person. It has minimal lyrics to further give you idea what else the singer wants to say but just a repetition of "can't you hear me?", if there's a liar and a sin. Can't second guess what is on his mind, who he is angry to, it may be about a situation that people really don't know of. But all symolisms instrument and sound point to anger, it could just be a song for release of anger, about what, only he knows. I liked it better when I heard it live. Know I sing to it along with my player.

this song is great, it is also maybe my fav song. i think it's about someone who thinks that just saying nothing or doing nothing is just like not doing or saying the wrong thing, and he sees that and wants to show the person so it'll stop. ya... or i could be wrong (btu i think i'm right)

i think the red rain is a metaphor for violence I was thinking that maybe Jacks girl was cheating on him, so he confronted the other guy, and the confrontation turned bloody, and Jack ends up killing the other guy. He then does to his girls house, standing in the "red rain", and calls her out. The things he says try to make her feel guilty... "You think not telling is the same as not lying, don't you? Then I guess not feeling is the same as not crying to you" she never told him about the other guy, so technically she never lied about it, and she didnt feel any shame or never had to cry because she didnt think he knew "If there is a lie, then there is a liar too and if there is a sin, then there is a sinner too" The other guy is the lie, Jack's girl is the liar, the murder is the sin, and Jack is the sinnner. Definitely, along with Instinct Blues, my fav on the new album, and i agree Nosdravde, when Jacks voice goes from one speaker to the other it sounds really wicked

Weezday, that is an ingenious obsevation. Would have taken me YEARS to work that out. It is a damn good album though. I like this and I like Denial Twist. And Forever for Her etc. I put GBMS on then listened to their first album, he sounds so young in comparison. Bless.

That's what I was thinking WeezDay, except I don't know if he killed him or not. He may have just beat the living hell out of him. ;)
