The way that the "is it me" bit contrasts with the rest is supposed to reflect Jimmy's 2 personalities refered to in the song. Oh, and "doctor Jimmy and mr Jim" is a reference to "dr jeckl and mr hyde", a story about a man who has 2 personalities, a good guy and a monster.

No One has posted yet on this. This is my favorite Who song amazing solos. I think the song is about madness and obsession that occur when you are really druink and stoned. It makes this guy see two people that tell him to go and kill/rape people.

The "Is It Me?" lyrics really contrast with the rest of the song.

Jimmy Cooper has lost everything he held dear in his life. The sight of the Ace Face working as a bell boy for the same hotel he smashed up completely destroyed Jimmy's pride in being a mod. Having already been severely disappointed with rock, his parents, his girlfriend, and his job, he drinks his problems away 'cause he has nothing left to live for. He could do any terrible act and not care at all. Amazing song. Keith Moon's drumming in particular is incredible. The final 1.5 minutes is simply glorious noise and it transitions so well into the next track on the album.

i always got the dr jeckyl/mr hyde impression from this song. its maybe about how someone acts completely different when they're drunk thanthey do when they're sober. i don't really know, haven't looked too closelyat the lyrics, i just love the song.

4 songs on Quadrophenia were supposed to represent the different members of The Who, and thusly the different sides of Jimmy's personality. The "Is it me?" part of this song was supposed to represent John Entwistle. The description of this side of Jimmy's personality in the linear notes is "A romantic, is it me for a moment?"

This is a wonderful song. I love the lines when they sing "Is it me, for a moment?" It just has a beautiful ring to it.

This is easily my favourite song on an incredible album. Having had all of his beliefs shattered, Jimmy drinks a bottle of gin on top of all the drugs he's taken. The alcohol brings out his most reckless personality and he steals a boat and heads out to a rock off the coast. His actions aren't coincidental, but he still doesn't comprehend why he is attracted to the sea.

Great song. I thought it was Roger's personality as he's well known as the "thug" out of the Who with his swaggering, brutish manner. The song sound like it's sung by a right hard b*stard...except the middle part (possibly his true feelings). Love the line "Oh fucking will he". Such pride and arrogance in his voice.
