I think the meaning of this is probably much deeper, but I have no idea what the meaning is. I love this song, one of the best on Who's Next.

I'm not sure, zefineis, but I don't think so. The repeated titles of the remastered tracks (1995) are from the earlier New York session with Kit Lambert, and I think if they had planned for it to be on Lifehouse it would have been released on this reissue, unless they did record it and left it in a vault somewhere. Townshend used an envelope follower to modulate the spectrum of his guitar on "Going Mobile", giving it a distinctive squawking sound that degenerates into a bubbling noise at the end of the song. I don't know what an envelope follower is but it sounds cool. I agree with Dhruva on the interpretation, that once life on the road is experienced, it begs to be repeated because of lack of responsibility, the continuing movement, the constant new faces, it all sounds quite fun.

This is my favorite song to sing along to when I am driving. It FREAKS me out when Townshend incorrectly sings, "I can lay in bed" as it should be "I can LIE in bed". He's ENGLISH for God's Sake!!! Poetic liscence is one thing, but poor English from an Englishman? Tsk Tsk Mr. Townshend :P You're still my favorite though!

First of all, it's townshend who sings the song. Secondly, the song is about how people who love travelling often forget or choose to forget other things in life. They don't care about pollution. They know no responsibility. They just keep travelling. Even when they're old. And pete explains subtly why too. Because travelling is a pleasure & is often rather addictive. When you get hooked on to travelling, it's hard to let go of it & keep moving places. One of the most underrated who songs ever. One of the first I ever heard & one of my most loved. I am still trying to figure out how pete manages to write such divine lyrics & puts it is such a fun loving song. Amazing..........

This song seems to be about how great it can be to travel. NASA played the song when Spirit successfully moved off of the platform on Mars. Just an interesting tidbit of information for you folks.

i love the beginning, daltrey's voice is sooo soothing there, and makes me wanna sing so loudly too. at first i thought it was a story of some guy in trailer or soemthing, escaping the police and tax guys, and so ion, but im sure it has a much deeper meaning to it

Have anybody heard to say this is a Lifehouse's song, about the people being prohibited to move from their hometown to another place? I heard that in a documentary, and it tolds there´s a relation between Goin´ Mobile and Baba O'Riley, for their parts of the same story.

yeah I heard about that, zefineis. I heard the song was set in the future and the government banned driving or something due to all the pollution but this didnt matter to Pete (or whoever in the story) and he breaks the law and goes driving anyways ("I don't care about pollution" "Watch the police and the tax man miss me") Great song!
