I think this is about rich snobs that think they are better than everyone else and hiding behind their wealth.

This song has that tune that is really good to drive to. Ok...well...I have never driven a car in my life, so you are probably thinking well how would I know. The song was featured on GTA:San Andreas...

it's a great song about the 80's, although it was written in '81. it's about living in excess and like opinionhead said, partying all the time. another great song from The Whos last album: It's Hard

As others have said, this song is about people who hide behind their power/wealth and believe they are invincible. Also, despite The Who NOT being a punk band, these lyrics are an example of what punk music should try to express. Unfortunately, punk music is all about kids turning up their guitars as loud as they can and screaming incoherently into their mics.

I agree with OpinionHead, but I also think they're hiding from time/death/mediocrity/pointlessness.

what opinionhead said, except i think it has to do how people ignorantly forget all the small details about life. at least part of it is

Pete had much opportunity to observe the wealthy and powerful up close, and clearly could see that although on the outside these people seem superior and more blessed than the rest of us, underneath it is often the opposite case. Often their success has been achieved in an effort to get away from low self-esteem, self-hatred, loneliness, etc., and underneath the veneer of superiority lives a scared little child.

I like this song a lot, but it's sad that it's one of The Who's last hits. It reminds me of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, The Great Gatsby.

some people become so preoccupied with building up their image that they lose sight of the fact that they are just a fake bitch. some people try way too hard to impress others. its a put on. one of the greatest rock n roll songs ever created.

It sounds really funky almost like a disco tune but with much more restraint on the guitar, synth, and bass. I really like it even though it was one of their last hits. Who is the drummer that replaced Moon after he died?

Not the best thing the Who has ever done, but: It does make you think, It is a good melody, very engaging all-around. Probably the best song from "It's Hard".

When I saw The Who at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in 2002, Pete said this before starting Eminence Front: "This song is about what happens, how you feel, what you think of yourself . . . when you take to much cocaine!"

It's about people escaping their problems by perpetually partying. Dress up pretty on the outside to hide the beast on the inside.

Rider_On_the_Storm, Jones NEVER replaced Moon! He was offered the position and turned it down, but still drummed for them. They never officially replaced Keith or John after they died.
