imo this "What does it matter to you? When you gotta job to do You gotta do it well You gotta give the other fellow hell" means that the petty things, although wind us up sometimes, mean nothing in the long run

Some people think it's, "but in this ever-changing world in which we live in..." Others think it's, "but if this ever-changing world in which we live in..." Still others argue it's, "but if tihs ever-changing world in which we're livin'..." I'm guessing Paul wrote the third one but accidentally sung the second one and liked how it sounded, so he stuck with it.

this song is so amazing. i think it means that when you were young and dint no mcuh about the world you would say live and let live because thats all you wanted to do cus life was great. when you got older and the world sdtarted to change it would often dissapoint people about some of the horrible things that would happen.so now you would say live and let die..your living your life(doing your job) and you have to live it well, give the other guy hell meaning do what you have to, to get to where you want to go, but when its time dont be dissapointed that it will come to an end, u've lived your life to the best and now it is time to die.

Is there decisive proof it's not "...ever changing world in which we're living"? When I listen close I can't tell for sure. The lyric would actually be grammatically correct that way, and both it and the currently posted version make sense. Also, GnR really butchered this song.

Has anybody seen the Bond movie with the same title? It must've been good for when it came out, but it sucks in terms of action and villains.

You know a song really sucks when it takes Guns n Roses to make it actually sound good.

Yeah. adri29's right. When you're young and don't know the ways of the world, you want to believe the wiorld is a good place. But when you enter the reality of our world, you realise you'd have to push others off to live yourself.

I believe this song contains the one of the most redundant lines in rock history... "But if this ever-changing world in which we live in " I like the GnR version...but the original was the best...

I think the song is about how the world can turn a person so bitter and resentful that at one point they can just forget their moral principles, and say "the hell with it ALL!".
