| In fact it is arguably true to state that The Kinks created the first heavy song with "You Really Got Me" (1964). The Yardbirds were the band that led to the development of a number of great guitarists that went on to develop hard rock/heavy metal music - Eric Clapton (Cream) - who in my view were the first hard rock band (in paralle to Hendrix); Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin which was the next generation of The Yardbirds and first true Heavy Metal Band (in parallel to Deep Purple) and Jeff Beck (Rod Steward / Faces, Jeff Beck Band, etc). This song needs the correct lyrics listed as sung by Keith Relf: There's a certain girl I've been in love with a long, long time (What's her name?) I can't tell you (No!) I can't reveal her name until I've got her (What's her name?) I can't tell you (No!) Well, I've tried, oh yeh, time and time again We just are enemies - nothing but friends And there's a certain girl I've been in love with a long, long time (What's her name?) I can't tell you (No!) Well, there's a certain chick I've been sweet on since I met her (What's her name?) I can't tell you (No!) I can't repeat her name until I get her (What's her name?) I can't tell you (No!) Well one day, I'm going to wake up and say "I'll do anything just to be your slave" And there's a certain girl I've been in love with a long, long time (What's her name?) I can't tell you (No!) (awesome Eric Clapton solo) Well, I've tried, yeh, time and time again We just are enemies - nothing but friends And there's a certain girl I've been in love with a long, long time (What's her name?) I can't tell you (No!) There's a certain chick I've been sweet on since I found her (What's her name?) I can't tell you (No!) I can't reveal her name until I get her (What's her name?) I can't tell you (No!) Well someday, yeh, time and time again We are just enemies and nothing but friends And there's a certain girl I've been in love with a long, long time (What's her name?) I can't tell you (No!) I can't tell you (No!) I can't tell you (No!) I can't tell you A great early British R'n'B song.. | |
