Tabbed by LKW on june 1st, 2004
Best played with fingers, since it's all arpeggio's.
It's pretty easy, except there are a few parts which
require some dexterity to still make it sound smooth,
mainly around the 3/5 slides. Still not too hard.
I'm not gonna tab out the exact picking pattern for
each measure, it differs a bit throughout the song but
it's based on these chords;
C5add9(?) D#maj7 G# Gmin
3 x 4 3
3 3 4 3
5 3 5 3
5 5 6 5
3 6 6 5
x x 4 3
You can just basically improvise on that.
C5add9
e|-------------------3----------|
B|------------4-----------------|
G|------5---------5-------3-----|
D|---5----5-----------3/5---5---|
A|-3~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~------------|
E|------------------------------|
D#maj7
e|------------------------------|
B|---------------3-----3-----3--|
G|---------------3-----3-----3--|
D|------------5-----5-----5-----|
A|-6~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~-----|
E|------------------------------|
G# Gmin
e|------------------------------|
B|----------------3-------------|
G|--------5-------3-------3-----|
D|----6-----5---------3/5---5---|
A|------6-----------------------|
E|-4~~~~~~~~~~~~3~~~~~~---------|
So play these picking patterns on the verses:
C5add9 D#maj7
I lie awake I've gone to ground
C5add9 D#maj7
I'm watching porn In my hotel dressing gown
C5add9 D#maj7
Now I dream of you But I still believe
G# Gmin D#maj7
There's only enough for one in this Lonely hotel suite
The chorus:
e|------------------------------|------------------------------|
B|-6------6------6------6-------|-6-------6--------5------5----|
G|---5------5------5------5-----|---5-------5--------5------5--|
D|------------------------------|------------------------------|
A|-6----6-----5------5--------4-|------4-------3-------3------3|
E|------------------------------|------------------------------|
repeat that three times
when it goes "even though we're.." the chorus ends with this:
e|------------------------------|------------------------------|
B|-6------6------6------6-------|-6-------6------6~~~~~~~~~~---|
G|---5------5------5------5-----|---5-------5----5~~~~~~~~~~---|
D|------------------------------|------------------------------|
A|-6----6-----5------5--------4-|------4---------4~~~~~~~~~~---|
E|------------------------------|------------------------------|

| I don't necessarily see that she's broken up with the person she speaks of, just away from him. There's distance between them, for whatever reason, but she holds on because they are each other's "destiny". And she can't wait for the day when they can see one another again. | |

| At the risk of sounding ridiculously cliche....this song speaks to me. I have been in a relationship like this in the past. Being apart from the person you care for. He is all you can think about. In a way, you are always together even when you are apart. | |

| I've come to love this song so much. It used to play in the Gap and I thought it was alright, but ever since I bought Zero 7's album it's the track I can't seem to stop listening to. I wasn't sure if she was really talking about "watching porn" in that first verse, so I searched for lyrics and got this site, so here I am! I get that she's reminiscing about a love that she's not with now, but because they are so perfect for each other she has faith that they'll still end up together. I think it's beautiful in a simple, relatable way. It reminds me of Dawson and Joey more than Buffy and Faith (if you wanna use teen drama references--I love both shows); unless you really believe Buffy and Faith are meant to be together in that Tara/Willow sorta way ;). But I get what you're saying, hehe. | |

But a simple song about how she wants to "get back to" him. But who knows. | |

| "Watching porn in my hotel..." I love the ability to sing about reality, things that actually happen, and have it fit. Most lyrics are romanticized or 'airbrushed' like Mariah Carey's for example. In 'Destiny' the story simply seems to be of a longing for a loved one. Her relationship w/ some person has come to an end, but it seems to be tentative, if only in her mind. She's clinging to destiny that they'll be together again. Destiny is not knowing, however. | |
