Home Z Zutons Valerie Guitar Tab

Great song. Should be a perfect tab for solo acoustic performance, without the little
riff for the chorus although for posterity it's at the bottom.
Intro:
E:--6-----6-----| x5 and a bit (cut off by chords)
B:----8-----8---|
G:------8-----8-|
D:--------------|
A:--------------|
E:--------------|
Verse 1:
Eb
Well sometimes I go out by myself
Fm
And I look across the water
Eb
And I think of all the things, what you're doing
Fm
And in my head I make a picture
Chorus:
G#5
Cos since I've come on home,
Gm
Well my body's been a mess
G#5
And I've missed your ginger hair
Gm
And the way you like to dress
G#5
Won't you come on over
Gm Bb
Stop making a fool out of me...
Eb
Why won't you come on over Valerie?
Fm
Valerie?
Verse 2:
Eb
Did you have to go to jail,
Fm
Put your house up on for sale, did you get a good lawyer?
Eb
I hope you didn't catch a tan,
Fm
I hope you'll find the right man who'll fix it for ya
Eb
And are you shoppin' anywhere,
Fm
Changed the colour of you hair, are you busy?
Eb
And did you have to pay the fine
Fm
You were dodging all the time, are you still dizzy?
with added part:
Eb
Valerie?
Fm
Valerie?
No chords for this next bit:
Well sometimes I go out by myself
And I look across the water
And I think of all the things, what you're doing
And in my head I make a picture
with added part as described before

I think it's about a past relationship between the singer and a girl, but she went away from him and he just misses her and feels alone without this girl, Valerie.

Such a damn cute song! When you listen to his little voice in this song you'd never think this guy was capable of singing the words "I chain you up/I make you mine/I keep you locked downstairs..." Now THAT's what you call a wide creative scope!

to me, this song is about a guy missing his ex or something, after moving away and that now hes moved back, he wants her to come over to his house or wherever hes staying ('why wont you come on over, valerie?') and catch up on the stuff that they've missed over the while that they've been apart. i love the zutons i do.

This song always reminds me of this guy I know, and he's always breaking up with girls and going out with new ones really quickly, but he's only ever been in love with one of them, and she was a bit... erm, quirky, like the valerie of this song, and she had ginger hair, dressed weirdly. Also, he always wonders about her, and goes down to the Mersey to think about her, which is where I presume Dave (the singer) goes when he refers to 'I look across the water'. Just really similar situations methinks

Well we've all been there. Screw it up and then regret it for years. Yep, sounds familiar. Great song. Almost as good as Confusion which is near the top of my top 10 at the moment. What a band.
