E Fig 3 G#m
there used to be a time that i believed
A F#m
the soft pouring rain was just the pouring rain

it wasn't me
G#m A F#m A
but every new lie dusted shiny and bright
G#m A G#m A
will suspend the storms and the clouds in sight

B A AbmM7b5
of an endless summer
B A AbmM7b5
an endless summer
E G#m F#m Fig4
an endless summer to be home

E G#m F#m

once there was a chance that i believed you

E G#m F#m & Fig 6

with things children shouldn't know

G#m F#m A
and so the fall-out from your third degrees
F#m A F#m A
are broken chairs and a pedigree
G#m A F#m A
where the sons kill sons, and the daughters stay wives
F#m
'cause when we rule, everybody dies

B A AbmM7b5
in an endless summer
B A AbmM7b5
an endless summer

now you can disagree
with how i choose to live
but freedom isn't free
unless you learn how to give

to the summer, summer, summer, yeah
summer, summer, summer, yeah

I can see that, because summer is a time for growing. you have a few months to do nothing but reflect and hang out, and towards the end it seems endless and you start to get lost in yourself because you begin to "listen too close". I also think its about something deeper than that though, but its hard to figure it out, billy is very cryptic with his lyrics, but thats also why hes so amazing!

did we go on too long did we listen too close to a youth built strong with things children shouldn't know ^to me this is about being one of the not "normal" kids/teenagers, being someone who doesn't care about all the conventional stuff. so i think this song is about some time that was spent on growing a lot.
